River Legacy Park’s Annual Cardboard Regatta

22nd Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta, April 30, 2011, 9 am to 4 pm at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor

The Cardboard Boat Regatta challenges amateur boat builders to design, build and navigate boats made entirely of corrugated cardboard.  Come and enjoy the fun as you watch the masterful maneuvers of boats braving the waves at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.

In addition to hosting the competition, the region’s largest water park will open the popular Tornado ride and Hook’s Lagoon for guests and participants to enjoy.  Want to get a head start?  Check out the following You Tube videos: Part 1 and Part 2.

Build a boat on site in two hours

Don’t have time to build a boat before race day?  Sign up for Build-on-Site.  You’ll construct a Guppy (2-person) boat at Hurricane Harbor in just two hours.

The races of boats built on site will take place in Hurricane Harbor’s Wave Pool after the adult time-trial races.  A trophy is awarded for the fastest finish!

Children’s Area Amenities

» Face Painting
» Bubble Play
» Mini-Boat Regatta for children ages 4 to 12; $5 entry fee
» Race a small pinewood sailboat along a rain gutter by blowing into the sail.

Whale Sail

Win fabulous prizes!  Purchase miniature rubber whales and cheer them on to victory as they race down the Lazy River.  The more whales you sail, the better your chances of winning!

Corporate Challenge

Companies or groups compete in boat races, volleyball and tug-of-war to win great awards!

Entry Fees (All fees include 2 Regatta admission passes per crew member)

Guppy boat (1-2 crew members) $50
Dolphin boat (3-5 crew members) $60
Whale boat (6-10 crew members) $80

Admission Prices

General Admission: $8 (includes admission to regatta and Hook’s Lagoon)

Pre-purchase General Admission tickets by April 29 for only $6.  (These tickets are only available at the Living Science Center. Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. At time of ticket purchase, you can also buy unlimited Tornado ride passes for $5).

Art in the Park in Kennedale

On April 8-10 at Kennedale Town Center, join the 2nd annual Art in the Park Festival – a FREE event with music, art, and dance!  Several artists will be on hand selling original artwork.  A 5K Race/Fun Run, a kids’ area, and live entertainment complete the fun.

Festival hours:

Friday, April 8:  4 pm – 10 pm

Saturday, April 9:  10 am – 10 pm

Sunday, April 10:  11 am – 6 pm

Jiggle Butt Run 5K

Start the new year strong with a fun 5K run/walk for women and girls!  The Jiggle Butt Run is on Saturday, January 8 at 9:00 am at UTA (Mavericks Athletic Center).  There will also be the “Wiggle Butt Run” – a 1K fun run for kids under 12.

This event benefits SafeHaven of Tarrant County.

Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk for Arthritis

On Saturday, December 4, you can burn some calories, support a worthwhile cause, and get in the holiday spirit at the Fort Worth Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis at Trinity Park.

Festivities begin at 2 pm and include a costume contest.  The 1 Mile Reindeer Fun Run starts at 3:45, and the 5K starts at 4:30.

Arthritis is our nation’s most common cause of disability.  Money raised from this event goes to the Arthritis Foundation, to fund arthritis research and programs that help those living with arthritis.

Early Bird online registration can save you a few bucks, but it ends on December 2 so sign up today!

First Fest, a Community-Wide Family Festival

Yeah, I know – another festival…but really, this one sounds great!  In particular, check out the Pumpkin Run benefiting the Mission Arlington Christmas Store – get a head start on helping them out for the holidays.

First Fest will be held on October 31st, at the corner of Abram and Center Streets in downtown Arlington.

From the website:

  • Afternoon of fun begins @ 4:00pm with the Pumpkin Run, a 5k run/walk benefiting the Mission Arlington Christmas Store. Registration is $10 + a new unwrapped toy.
  • Immediately following the Pumpkin Run there is a huge FREE family friendly street party.
  • From 4:30-8:30pm there will be over 20 inflatables, bounce houses, games, a mechanical bull and street performers.
  • Food vendors will be available all day for you to purchase you favorite foods.
  • Kids will be able to Trunk R Treat at over 60 cars between 5:30 and 7:30pm.

Trek or Treat 5K Run and Walk

Come join the fun for the first annual Trek or Treat 5K Run & Walk at Watters Creek in Allen on Saturday, October 30, benefiting the Allen Parks Foundation.  Halloween-related activities following the race include hayrides, a magic show, a petting zoo, and trick-or-treating.

Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm is located at U.S. 75 and Bethany Drive in Allen, Texas.  Packet pick-up and race registration begins at 7 am, and the day-long festivities conclude with an outdoor movie at 6:30 pm.
